Peter A. Haas, Registered Patent Attorney

Peter is a registered patent attorney licensed in Oregon. With 7 years experience as a patent attorney and 10 years experience as an engineer, he focuses on assimilating and understanding technology so its economic value can be fully utilized.

IP Attorney: As an IP attorney, Peter assimilates your creative expressions and craft protectable intellectual property so you can capitalize on its economic value. He has worked with inventors in diverse technology areas from complex two-stroke diesel engines to the basic paper clip. He drafted patents for medical devices, foot assessment systems, novelty items, robotic systems, consumer electronics, business methods, and surgical instruments, for example.

Engineer: As an engineer, Peter assimilated technology to solve problems so the company could capitalize on its economic value. He worked in diverse technology areas including automotive loudspeakers, fuel-injection systems for two-stroke marine engines, micro-switches, and motorcycle switch assemblies. As a result of this work, he was involved - in varying capacities - with aluminum castings, machined parts, stampings, springs, bearings, electronic assemblies, switch assemblies, and wire harnesses, to name a few.

Researcher: As a graduate research student at the University of Central Florida, Peter developed simulation programs for modeling manufacturing scenarios. Then-existing FORTRAN-based simulation software proved inadequate for complex industrial facility modeling, so he designed an object-oriented (C++) program solution.

Translator: As an engineering graduate from Marquette University with French-language ability, he wrote French-language operating manuals for newly designed and constructed computer-automated welding machines.

Professional Service: Since 2002, Peter has assisted aspiring legal professionals as a part-time instructor of IP Law at Portland Community College. His article, "Extra-Territorial Jurisdiction Effects of Patent Infringement Issues" has been published internationally.

Community Service: Peter believes that his success is a result of many positive influences in the community as a whole. He provides pro bono services to nonprofits including the Pixie Project and Dove Lewis. Part of his service obligation is served as a volunteer with Dove Lewis as an Animal Assisted Therapy (with his dog, Annie). Additionally, he contributes to many local and national charities including volunteer work for the Oregon Humane Society and serving as an instructor for Team Continental driver training.

Of Counsel

Currently, Peter enjoys a solo-firm practice. However, he routinely involves other attorneys in matters in both an informal and formal arrangements, as required and when approved by the client. For example, a loose network of solo patent attorneys serves as a sounding board for hypothetical legal issues. And, close contacts with the legal community ensures other legal disciplines are readily available should an issue transcend IP law.

This flexibility ensures cost-effective and competent legal services to the client.
